Financial Meltdown 2009
Thursday June 26th
We began the day quite early at about 10:00am in room 10, and were all given a brief welcome and a short explanation on what financial meltdown was, we were then told the health and safety rules and the pro
cedure to take in case of a fire alarm.
We met the mentors and they gave a brief on what area they specialised in.
A little while later we were all give individual numbers from 1-4 and got into group according to our numbers.
We walked over to the other building and with different mentors went into different rooms were we were given a 15 minute explanation on what that mentors area was about and what each group would do (the 4 group were Audio, Film, Web and Vijay-Projection) after the 15 minutes were up we then had a change around and went into another room with a different mentor, after hearing and seeing the 4 groups I decided I wanted to do web because I liked the idea of making the website and animations.
At about 11:30 we all went back to room 10 and were given lunches to take to Tate Modern the museum in Bankside.
At Tate Modern we got tickets for the futurism exhibition but before that we got a
chance to visit the display on floor 5: No ghost just a shell, which is a collaborative group of works which uses the copyright for a manga character, Ann Lee, attempting to free her from her status as a product and question the nature of images and identity.
The title refers to Masamune Shirow’s manga classic, Ghost in the Shell, which explores the possibilities of infiltrating human minds and hijacking identity.
This display scared some of us as the animation was very emotional and deep, but I really liked the way the posters were made and the use of different fonts and colours.
For more information visit No Ghost Just a Shell
Later we also visited the cubism collection which I personally fount kind of boring and at 2:00pm we went into the futurism exhibition th
ere was many displays but the ones that mostly caught my eye were the displays by the Czech painter and graphic artist FrantiĊĦek Kupka. The reason I really liked his work was because so much colour is used and the texture in which the brush strokes are displayed is amazing, the curves the contrast between light and dark, it all felt really exciting I enjoyed the day out to Tate and it was a good experience and a good source of inspiration in the end.
Enjoy by Kevin.

The Tate Modern
During the trip to the Tate Modern we observed many pieces of art. The one that intrigued me the most however, was the mirror. Not because i could view my own reflection, but due the enigmatic meaning behind it; every person is a piece of art in itself. This, and many other pieces of art, inspired me for my project which would be completed in one weeks time.
Rose Bruford
Rose Bruford held many interesting aspects of the performing art's secrets within itself. The enchanting college allowed us to understand the "how's?" and "why's?" of the performing realm, encouraging our creativity to wander further than before.
Touring the campus meant that we got to look into the backstage genius' jobs, showing us what really makes the performances.

Robert's responce to VJing
This week has been very eventful, with lots of different things going on its really hard to get bored.
We have been doing some VJing and mixing it to the beat of the music. We also created our own money. I have found this whole week a really good and valuable experience and have learnt alot to do with the financial meltdown furthermore I have learnt how to use modul8 a VJing software which allows you to do some video manipulation and beat triggering with the use of a MIDI keyboard (Musical Instrument with a Digital Interface)

this week has been really good. we have learnt how to make compositions on a vj software called module8. we also done filming around UEL so we could use the footage to create our own videos and to vj with them. after we had taken the film we used imovieHD to edit the footage. we also created our own money on photoshop. overall the week has been very eventful and interesting and its been really good to learn something new which you have never done before. My Diary (miss u guys !)
Thursday
We started this project on Thursday last week. We were put in random groups by the teacher and were off to Tate art gallery in London. We were given a sketchbook and a pencil to draw pictures that we fund interesting and could use in our developments later on. When we finally got there my group took a picture and purchased our tickets and was off. I paired up with my friend Joyce. I drew pictures of random paintings, which was kind of hard because most off the paintings were so crazy and complicated. I think the best picture that I drew was of an anime girl, which looked very cool. She was hard to draw because everybody just started at her and wouldn’t move out the way! We were there for ages it seemed like forever! But I think that it was a great experience for everyone because it helped everyone see the important side of painting, it tells a story. I think most of us enjoyed ourselves it was fun and I had a great time.
Friday
Unfortunately I wasn’t here on Friday so I had to miss out because I had some science coursework that needed doing on that day.
Monday
On Monday we met up as usual and we went and checked what group we were in. I really wanted to do music but I was put in web! I didn’t really have a clue what we were going to do exactly until we got there. W had to design a web page based on financial meltdown. I did about fashion. I chose fashion because us girls love dressing up. Most of us buy clothes that we don’t even wear which costs a lot. So I thought about doing something different. So I came up with the idea of making a website which all genders could go to and could learn to make stuff out of old stuff that they don’t need. I made a mind map of the website which all came out well and organized. went on photo shop and I started on my animations. I went online and got photos of models and put them together on photo shop to make it look like a video. It was fun but it got DELETED! I worked so hard on it and it didn’t save properly! I was so angry bur I started again. Phew.
Tuesday
We worked on photo shop which was fun, I had a good time and learnt something new!
Wednesday
On Wednesday went on imovie and edited the videos we took of random people around the campus. We interviewed people, asking them questions to do with fashion during the recession and Financial Meltdown.
Thursday
On Thursday I made my little magazine page for bargains on vintage clothing, which I thought, was really colorful and eye catchy!
Friday
On Friday we are going to Hackney to show our work to the public!! =S
Enjoy ppl! xx

I was inspired by the "venus of the rags" because of the recycled clothes around her, which gave me the idea of recycled fashion.

My most favourite image in the tate was "Afterlife" by annlee.

Heyy!!
Today Ive been Researching All The Information Needed For My Section Of The Website. Its Been Good So Far And We've Done A Lot Of Work. Now I'm Just Waiting To See The Final Thing!
Meltdown Has Been Good Cause Ive Learned How To Use Different Software Such As iMovie and DreamWeaver, And We Got To Do Something New!
Quick Review Of What We've Done:
Thursday: Went Tate Modern!
It Was Good As I Got Ideas From All The Work, I Also Got The Chance To See How Other People Work.
Friday: Went Rose Bruford College!
This Was Good Because We Got To See Students Work And Got To Ask Them For Advice Or Anything Else We Wanted To Ask Them.
Monday: We Learned How To Use DreamWeaver!
It Was Pretty Easy To Use Once I Got The Hang Of It!
Tuesday: We Were Working On PhotoShop!
Photo Shop Was Easy To Use, We Were Editinng Photos And Making Animations.
Wednesday: We Were Working On iMovie!
This Was Alright To Use But It Kept Freezing And It Was A Bit Frustrating =]
Thursday: Getting Our Info Sorted For The Website!
I Did This Pretty Quickly Once I Knew What I Was Writing About
Friday [Tomorrow]: We're Going To Show All Our Hard Work To The Public! =O
Should Be Good! =P
Haha Enjoy People! =]
Emma =D
Thurs 25th June - We began in the base room where we were given a welcome and brief introduction as to what we would be doing over the next week. We were then separated into smaller groups and put on rotation to see all the different aspects of work.
We Left for Tate Modern at around 11 ‘o’ clock; Spending the rest of the day exploring the exhibition rooms to get inspiration. We return to the UEL base for around 4pm.
Fri 26th June - We had a slightly later start than expected. We spent the duration of the day at Rose Bruford College. Bruford College is specialized in performing arts. We were given a tour of the site as well as a look at some of the students work. The day was a great experience; giving us a greater understanding of how it all works. The college itself was very impressive as there is a unity between the staff and students; giving it a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
Mon 29th June - We began in the base room where we were told the groups and areas we would be working in for the next week. We began the day by brainstorming ideas on the financial meltdown. Together we came up with some ideas in which we would expand on. We spent the rest of the day getting used to Dreamweaver which is the application in which we will be using to produce the website.
Tues 30th June - We had a 10:00 start; we spent the morning being introduced to Photoshop. Photoshop is a picture editing application. In the afternoon we were given the chance to go off on campus to interview staff/students on their opinions on financial meltdown.
Weds 1st July - We were introduced to the video editing application iMovie HD.
iMovie HD allows us to edit videos and interviews, adding effects; text; sound ect. We uploaded the interviews in which we previously carried out and edited them.
Thurs 2nd July – Today we focused on getting our page on the website done. Myself and Elisha worked on the page in which gives advice on making your home more “environmentally friendly.” Before we proceeded to making the page we sketched our ideas out on paper. We then began to gather the information for our page; such as tips.
